The sound of creaking floorboards jolts me awake. I sit up in bed, looking around the room, trying to figure out where the noise is coming from. Through the darkness, I can see the outline of the bedroom door. With a metallic click, the door opens and a cloaked figure slips inside.

Leaning over, I turn on the table lamp to find the room completely empty. "Must have been a dream," I think, wiping the sleep from my eyes. Leaving the light on for good measure, I roll over and snuggle back into bed.

In a matter of moments, a subtle weight begins to form at the foot of the bed. Frozen in place, my eyes shoot open. Methodically, the weight creeps up the bed, straddling my body. Its movements deliberate like a cat on the prowl.

Gathering courage, I roll onto my back only to see you lingering above, perched on all fours. In the soft glow of the lamp, your features are barely visible: sleek black hair, towering horns, and a scarlet-red body hidden under a black robe.
