Remove water peak?

Is it possible to remove water peak when using D2O as solvent? I'm planning to use NMR to determine the rate of reaction of my project and my PI said I should remove the large water peak in my NMR now before actual start doing it but isn't D2O will exchange proton and form water anyway?
