Made a big ol' veggie garden over the past week, fencing, soil, the whole nine. I grew a bunch of seedlings up to the point where I felt comfortable transplanting them outside (after a few days of slowly acclimating them to the weather).
So, here's what I think my issue is...after transplanting them, they're all looking rather weak. And I mean everything; squash, cucumber, tomaters, peppers...etc. The only thing doing well is my parsley and strawberry.
And I'm not sure if the clay soil is too thick for the roots to drop down or what.
I have been watering everything consistently as per veg type need, planted things according to sun/shade needs, and have been on the lookout for critters messing with my babies.
I did lay about 2in of top soil over the ground. There used to be a large garden bed (cleared from being overgrown) and I noticed that after the first inch or so of top soil, everything underneath is thick ass clay.
Should I regret not rototilling the whole thing?
Would it be a dumb idea to evac everything out of the bed and somehow dig/till the area by hand? (I don't own a tiller and it's a rough 20ft diameter circle)
It's been about 3-4d since transplanting everything in and I'm unsure if I'm being impatient or if I made the mistake of listening to the landlord and not rototilling the land.
Thanks for any advice,
