What if this is just a ploy to secure funding for the tunnels and congestion pricing? NJT may not be effectively communicating, but they are still letting us know there’s a problem. The issues that plague MTA are some of the same that affect NJT, OLD INFRASTRUCTURE. Imagine if the 60’s and 70’s were a rebirth (Japan’s Shinkansen) of American Rails instead of lobotomy(Beeching Cuts of 1955)? Imagine the prowess of NJT had it been funded like LIRR. NJT is weak, neutered and vulnerable.
Monday, I took the 5:07pm from MSU to NY Penn, and we were held up outside Secaucus for a hot minute(long time). 53 minute ride turned to 1.5 hours, and was almost late to my comedy show had I not hauled ass down 8th Avenue.
I am in no way praising NJT or Amtrak, yet, given the challenges they face with an old crumbling system, most lines do have decent headways (M&E or MBPJ). The system that goes into New York (NEC and Midtown Direct) is the problem, and if this was all a ploy to secure funding then so be it…. I guess. Not happy about it, but only way to fund the things that you need is continued use, advocation and investment- so that’s what we must do.
Make sure you tell your lawmakers that you want congestion pricing back on the table. The only way our system can improve starts and ends with us. You want change? Be part of that change.
