Hey Everyone! I recently used the Newark Subway to get from Newark Penn to Grove Street in Bloomfield. Does a conductor ever check for tickets? I know it’s mostly riders heading from Penn to Broad, which is included in the Secaucus Transfer ticket, but if you go on at say, Washington Street, and travel to Grove Street, would they check? Has anyone ever been checked for a ticket? It seems like there’s a homeless issue, and frequently travel on the line to stay warm and ride for free, looping around back and forth. I didn’t mind not paying, since the service is actually quite convenient. The non-transit savvy don’t know about this line, and instead happen the infrequent Lackawanna Bloomfield station instead of Grove Street in Bloomfield, which has more frequent service and is quite quick. Grove street to Penn takes like 15 minutes and runs every 20 minutes but Bloomfield Lackawanna to Penn is 8 minutes and runs every two hours. Cheaper, Quicker and more frequent. Seems like a no brainer if you don’t mind the transfer at Penn.
