The lions will not compete for atleast 2 years so everyone seems to want them to take bpa with that edge from oregon (not even gonna try to spell kayvon thibideaux). I think this is a great way for the lions to continue to be bottom feeders for years by not taking positions of bigger importance. With one of the best recent edges in recent history at number 1 the lions could catch a good return for the #1 pick, most likely with WAS including their top 10 pick in rounds 1 and 2 and a 1st next year. Now with their top 10 pick they have to take malik willis. I have not seen a player more perfect for a team in a long time, with that good o-line (and being able to build on it) then good recievers in amon-ra St. Brown and Drake london (with an early 2nd or the rams pick) and picking up a speedster for the open field. Malik willis could sit behind goff for a season, or atleast half, to learn NFL speed then come in and use his talents to make detroits offense terrifyingly good in 2-3 years. Getting them WAS's first next year would leave them with 3 firsts and multiple early seconds to finish that line and get some defensive superstars, then filling defensive holes with some FA's with all that cap from many players still being on rookie contracts. This could easily make the lions dominant in the NFCN post rodgers, as that division looks the most open within the next few years because of the current meltdown of the vikings and the bears. This could get them into super bowl territory far faster and better than just taking a good edge and having him force his way out in a few years with the great spencer rattler at qb.
Drafting kayvon T at 1 will lead to the lions being a terrible team keeping him as a joe thomas, rather than taking the best fit i have seen in some time and building a team ground up. Drafting 1 superstar every year is what keeps the lions rolling at 4-6 wins every year
Tl:dr: trade the 1 for malik willis and a first, draft offense (Wr and Oline) then have willis sit for a year. Use the like 7 top 50 picks next year on defense then fill holes with FAs with the cap from rookie contracts, leading the lions to be true contenders in 3 years.
