Post Body

This years NFL draft will be unlike any other before and presumably after. The country's situation has created a difficult environment for teams to properly evaluate players and for players to put their best foot forward. But in all times of adversity, teams and players must get creative. I feel that this situation will be a powerful lesson in front office and scouts' effectiveness to evaluate and draft with less information available than ever before.

The quarterbacks are the most discussed position, and rightfully so as it is the most valuable position. This draft provides plenty of drama and substance from the"sure thing" of Joe Burrow at first pick to how teams determine Tua Tagovailoa and Justin Herbert potential. Jordan Love is the most puzzling of them all, however. Do you bet on his potential because he has all the tools? Or do you look at stats and wins- losses as the most important factors? We've seen these "potential" risks pay off in players like Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson and "sure things" like Jamarcus Russell and Vince Young.

The O-line class is deep in this draft class and very strong on the top tier. This tier of Wirfs, Wills, Thomas, and Becton are a strong group to choose from. You can see a ranking of every combination of these guys depending on what analysts value. I think it comes down to O-line needy teams to find the appropriate fit for their offense and what they value most. As opposed to the deep wide receiver class, however, I would expect a strong run on the offensive lineman early instead of waiting.

No trades in first version.

Bengals- Joe Burrow QB LSU Most valuable position should lead to the biggest change, right? A young and inexperienced coach needs to make this his team. (Sean McVay/ Jared Goff, Kliff Kingsbury/ Kyler Murray). Don't get fancy!

Washington- Chase Young DE OSU This pick is another no brainer. It is also the prime example of picking the best available prospect, who should make immediate impact (think the Bosa Brothers) The rumors and speculation of taking Tua is just that. Either it's heresay or they are creating incentive for dolphins or chargers to trade up.

Lions - Jeff Okudah CB OSU Jeff Okudah is unquestionably the best cb in this draft. At the combine we saw nothing to change this, even though he had to miss much of the drills through injury. Trading away your top 2 corners in Quandre Diggs and Darius Slay, you can't pass on the almost sure thing of Okudah. But a trade here could allow the Lions to still get Okudah or a Simmons and boost their draft capital.

Giants -Andrew Thomas OT UGA While some may not view Thomas as the top lineman prospect, I think this is the ideal choice for the Giants. Coming from a balanced Georgia offense, the Giants run a similar style and need that guy who can pass protect and run block. Daniel Jones needs the young offensive line help as he grows.

Dolphins - Tua Tagovailoa QB BAMA We know the Dolphins are eager to find their future franchise quarterback. Tua has been nothing but consistent for his time at Alabama, despite his injury woes. This is a risk worth taking because no other position can pay off the way a QB can and allowing him to sit, heal and learn is ideal.

Chargers-Justin Herbert QB OREGON I think we all know Tyrod Taylor is not the future, but a solid spot filler. Herbert is the spitting image of the ideal quarterback. If you like big hands, well meet Justin Herbert  He has a lot of refining to do, but has all the tools and put on a great show at the senior bowl.

Panthers-Isaiah Simmons LB CLEMSON A highly touted defensive weapon is the best description of Simmons. You can't really replace a stud like Luke Kuechly, but Isaiah Simmons is a good fit. However, being good at a lot of things doesn't mean he's necessarily great at the role the Panthers will want him to play.

Cardinals- Tristan Wirfs OT IOWA You got the young QB who proved worth the top pick. You need a lineman who can move to protect a And with the steal of the off-season not only getting one of the top wide receiver in DeAndre Hopkins, but also unloading a slumping and terrible contract in David Johnson. Wirfs' athletic ability was on view at the combine and is evident in much of his tape where he is able to overpower defenders and get to his blocks quickly.

Jaguars -Derrick Brown DL AUBURN The top D-Line prospect in this draft. A defense that is shambles of the "Sacksonville" title it once held and fear it gave opposing offenses. Brown is a cornerstone guy to build around, especially with the loss of Calais Campbell and potential loss of Yannick Ngaqoue.

Browns- Mekhi Becton OL LOUISVILLE O-LINE, O-LINE, O-LINE. The acquisition of Jack Conklin was really big for the Browns, but Greg Robinson's most recent "holding" penalty still leaves them looking for another piece that they can hope help Baker overcome his sophomore slump.

Jets- Jerry Jeudy WR ALABAMA With a Brady-less Patriots, every team in the AFC East is eyeing a chance for the top spot. You can't always be in re-building mode. The Jets NEED to find weapons for Sam Darnold. Jerry Jeudy is the do-it-all wide receiver that can become Darnold's favorite target.

Raiders- Ceedee Lamb WR OU Ceedee Lamb's tape speaks for itself. The Raider's are still looking for their #1 receiver and Lamb is hard to pass on. He is a great target who makes plays and catches happen. Just watch his highlights, enough said.

49ers - Javon Kinlaw DL S. CAROLINA  I expect the 49ers to go for Javon Kinlaw to fill in for the loss of Deforest Buckner. With Bosa and Armstead on the edges, Kinlaw helps keep this d-line the scariest in the league. Don't envy being a QB in the NFC West.

Buccaneers - Jedrick Wills OL BAMA The Bucs will B.E.G. their way to a very efficient and effective offense; that being the Brady, Evans, Godwin trio. With the Bucs winning the Brady sweepstakes they better draft some protection to help the geezer under center. They're defense took a large step forward last year.

Broncos- Henry Ruggs WR ALABAMA They have their QB. They have their running backs. What else do you need to help a young and inexperienced Drew Lock? How about a barn burner in Henry Ruggs on the opposite side of the sure handed Courtland Sutton?

Falcons- CJ Henderson CB FLORIDA The Falcons' 10 out of 11 offensive starters are former first round picks. What does this mean? Honestly, not a lot, but they need to address the defensive side of the ball to create a more balanced team. Taking Henderson here should help fill a big hole in the secondary that has been exposed the past few years.

Cowboys -K'Lavon Chaisson DE LSU A speedy and athletic edge rusher is too much for the Cowboys to pass on here. The loss of Robert Quinn and Antwaun Woods leaves some holes on the defensive line. Chaisson is a rush specialist who prefers 2 point stance technique.

Dolphins - Xavier McKinney S BAMA After their haul of free agents, especially Patriot players, the Dolphins need to fill in their gaps. They have arguably the best 1-2 combo at corner, so the addition of the best safety in the draft is a no brainer.

Raiders- Kristian Fulton CB LSU The secondary is a glaring need for the Raiders. With Johnathan Abram and Lemarcus Joyner have a hold on the safety spot, but need to get a corner back. LSU is known as DBU for a reason. Fulton's man coverage and ball skills make him a top at the position with little refining left.

Jaguars -Jeff Gladney CB TCU Jaguars have dug themselves into a hole in the secondary with trades like Jalen Ramsey and AJ Bouye. This is a key hole that needs to be filled.

Eagles - Justin Jefferson WR LSU Jefferson or not, the Eagles need to address the wide receiver position ASAP. Jefferson is a lanky and consistent receiver who's college quarterback is similar to Carson Wentz.

Vikings -Denzel Mims WR BAYLOR There's little depth behind Adam Thielen. Mims is a big bodied receiver who can also get down field quick. He's still raw in route running, but he's a ball hawk who dominates in contested catches.

Patriots- Zach Baun LB WISCONSIN If you think you know what Belichick and the Patriots are going to do, you're probably wrong. Are they going to go for biggest need? Are they going to go for best available? Zach Baun has a high football IQ, instincts and high motor. All the cliche adjectives. I don't expect the Patriots to reach for a quarter back with uncertainty, especially with other needs to fill.

Saints -Patrick Queen LB LSU The Saints have addressed some of their secondary and wide receiver needs, but have been quiet on a large need in linebacker.  You can't rely on Kiko Alonso and his glass knees at linebacker. Queen doesn't have much in terms of experience, but he's shown plenty in his short time to create immediate impact here.

Vikings -AJ Epenesa DE IOWA Epenesa didn't have a strong combine, but as they say "tape don't lie". He has proven that he can get by lineman and get to the quarterback or the ball carrier.

Dolphins- Josh Jones OL HOUSTON The rebuild continues, this time at the offensive line. Josh Jones is a strong pass protector. This the pick the Dolphins received from the Texans for Laremy Tunsil so it only makes sense to fill that spot.

Seahawks-Ezra Cleveland OT BOISE ST A still raw prospect that has strong upside. Has all the intangibles and a very high floor. Given this situation for him, he can aid equally in the pass and run game.

Ravens -Kenneth Murray LB OU This draft is definitely light on line backers. Kenneth Murray is far from perfect, but his athletic ability and ceiling is hard to pass on.love taking raw athletes they can form and refine Murray to their liking.

Titans-Yetur Gross Matos DE PENN ST The Titans don't have any immediate glaring needs, thus many experts are all over the board with this pick. Do they find the long term/ cheaper replacement for Derrick Henry? Take advantage of the deep wide receiver and offensive line class? This is certainly a combination best available and need pick. I don't think Vic Beasly is a permanent fix, so taking a powerful pass rusher under Vrabel's wing should be the pick.

Packers - Austin Jackson OT USC The loss of Bryan Bulaga creates a glaring need at tackle, as once again the wide receiver position can wait for the second round.

49ers - Noah Igbinoghene CB AUBURN I expect a trade back here for the 49ers as teams scramble to get back in the first round to get that 5th round option.

Chiefs - Trevon Diggs CB ALABAMA You can almost never go wrong with a defensive Alabama starter. Diggs is a versatile cb who can slide to the safety position if needed.
