I mean they aren’t illegal currently…. Just prohibitively expensive due to the that pesky FOPA and Hughes amendment from 1986. If this were to do anything major, it would likely just remove FA’s from the nfa registry. Doubt it would allow the manufacture of new machine guns for civilian purchase. One could only hope for the latter though. But since it’s a rich man’s thing, and they spend lots of money lobbying politicians, they don’t want to allow that as they’d loose so much money overnight when the market for transferable FA’s would crash.

But they aren’t wasting their personal capital. When you are talking about losing let’s just say $50k overnight on a single transferable colt m16 you own, you might spend some money lobbying politicians to keep the Hughes amendment in place.
