I passed today!
Post Body

Hello everyone! I passed the nchmce today, I am so happy. Going through this subreddit helped me a lot when I was anxious. So a couple things I would recommend:

  1. Do a lot of simulations on the counselingexam.com

  2. Do not guess answers!

  3. Usually the right amount of answers will be 1 or -1 of half of the number of options. So if there is 10 options, 5 is half… if you are sure about 4 of them, just leave it there!

  4. Definitely go back in each simulation and understand why you got the answers wrong. This is a key step, so it’s not only doing the simulations but going back and reviewing answers.

  5. Know the duration certain disorders have to have to meet criteria. In some cases this will be what takes you to the right answer. For example, if someone is experiencing a lot of anxiety symptoms but has only been going on for 4 months, you can easily rule out generalized anxiety (has to be occurring for at least 6 months).

  6. Lastly, I would say don’t worry if you are not passing every simulation. On the practice tests, I was always passing one part and failing another. However, I was very close to passing and my scores ranged in the high 60s to 70s. I passed the actual exam IG by 14 points and DM by 5 points.

Good luck and lmk if you have any questions I’ll be happy to answer!

Ah thank you! You will do just fine :)

I did notice an increase overtime, especially in the dm section!

As you do them you’ll start to understand more why you’re getting some wrong. I definitely had to read some of the dm questions a couple times during the test to make the best choice! Can’t say I was as patient on the practice ones haha but just put the hours in. It sounds like you gave yourself ample time and you’re already doing so great. Good luck, and don’t stress too much. I just realized how stressed I was from when I started studying 😅
