Position change for athletes?

I recruit athletes every class but when I go to the position change task in the off-season there is no "athlete" position. Are they getting auto assigned to a position? I admittedly don't track my recruits enough in season because I'm old and trying to cruise through seasons so I'm just making sure they aren't disappearing lol. I remember in '14 they would go under athlete then you'd have to assign them..
