Is the game with no updates significantly easier?

So I don't have internet set up at my house so I haven't downloaded any updated just playing the out of the box version. Is the game significantly easier before any patches? I'm seeing online a lot about the difficulty of the game but I'm not seeing it. I'm currently 10-0 with Texas State on all American out of the box and only one game has been close. Not trying to brag at all, it's actually kind of hurting my enjoyment. If I'm actually playing well I'm happy about it, but I feel like I'm not earning it due to it being the OOTB version and maybe not playing on a real difficulty slider.
