Last night while at the race in Daytona, I came across something very disheartening: children of all ages (adults too) with ZERO from of hearing protection on during green flag racing.
I saw literal babies, being carried in parents’ arms with nothing in or on their ears during the race. I saw young children in the same scenario, and of course tons of teenaged, college, adults, and senior aged individuals without any form of hearing protection.
It’s one thing as an adult to make a decision to not protect your hearing, but to not do the same for your children is awful, and something to be ashamed of. I’m still in shock today.
Two middle aged man sat next to me without protection at first, and by the end of Stage 1 they both left to buy ear plugs at one of the track’s fan shops.
You can’t even hear yourself think when the pack goes by, and is pretty uncomfortable.
Please do your children a favor, and put some damn muffs on their ears. Once that hearing starts to go, it’s gone.
It’s not hard, and they might actually enjoy the racing more not having their eardrums painfully rung every minute.
