Post Body

Has anyone here got any idea what's going on here? The patches on the ground are extremely waxy and are really glueing the leaf litter together. The trunk stuff is not so waxy and feels slightly softer, but still quite waxy. The ground patches are all within 1.5m (5') of the trunk. The tree appears dead. Unsure on species. For reference I'm 6'2". I've never seen anything like it before. Native bush near a small creek not far from the high tide mark in a harbor, east coast Northland, New Zealand.
