Hello all! I recently purchased a small oyster mushroom grow kit. Mainly for a fun little quarantine project. I have not even opened it to fruit yet, and already decided that while this is a cool little novelty thing, I want to grow more species and on a larger scale.
I grew actives in the past, so the basic growing procedures are nothing new to me. Did a little googling though just to refresh my brain.
My main question is what substrate to spawn to bulk on for Hericium and Pleurotus. I know these are both wood loving species. Would they do alright on coir? I have seen a little about using pet bedding or hardwood pellets as well. Is the pasteurization process for these the same as it would be for coir?
I currently don't have a pressure cooker. As much as I would love to do the whole process myself from start to finish, I just don't have the means to at the moment. So to start off I am going to be using pre-sterilized grain bags and liquid culture, and my intent is to G2G as many bags as I can reasonably fit in my apartment.
