Eco-friendly replacements for bubble wrap?

There's a discussion going 'round at my institution about finding something other than bubble wrap to use when soft-packing artwork. If we wrap and seam-seal paintings in archival plastic sheeting before wrapping them with other materials, I'm not too worried about off-gassing and acidity and such, but has anyone found something that cushions like bubble wrap? We're looking at honeycomb paper, but it just seems too crushable to me.
