Post Body

Hello everyone,

I got my diagnosis a few years back. I’ve only ever worked manual labor, and my skills reflect that. Carpentry, construction, warehouse, utility work, all very demanding physically. I can no longer do these types of work. I just got a job doing a similar thing out of pure desperation. I knew I’d hate it and I do. I have optic neuritis in one eye, but the fatigue is the main thing that makes everything so hard. I wake up feeling like I already worked a 12 hour shift, and every fiber of my being is telling me, don’t go in, quit. But like every other person in this capitalist hellscape, I need to earn a meager wage just to scrape by.

I need help changing careers. How do I do that?? I live in the Seattle WA area. I’ve asked MS Society and they just throw links at you. I dont find that helpful. It’s a full time job in itself navigating state bureaucracies, and I feel they’ll just place me as a Walmart greeter at the end of it all, and I’ll be condemned to poverty. I used to make $25-$30 an hour which isn’t a whole lot, and I don’t feel like I should be any poorer just because I got a shitty diagnosis. Does anyone have experience with state job reassignment programs? Are there recruiters that specialize in placing people with restrictions? Should I go for disability? Any help would be appreciated.
