Does anyone have any bad experience with birth control?

My gynae seems to be very stringent about not putting me on BC and insists I continue using condoms. Her main concern is that I would be complicating things for my body further.
I mean, sure, but I should have some decision making power here, no? I dunno. Any experiences with BC would be appreciated.
