Question about insurance coverage for early steps of transitioning.
Post Body

Hey girls, after a few therapy sessions I’ve come to terms with the fact that I gotta transition if I want to be happy. Anyway, I reached out to my insurance (anthem blue cross) about coverage and I asked about HRT, laser and voice therapy. The lady on the other end was pretty evasive and only gave me generic answers (you have a 5 dollar copay for medicine, we cover 90% of surgeries but you’ll need preauthorization).

It was kind of frustrating as I wasn’t getting an answer to the big question I had (do I need preauthorization for HRT), but she gave me the number of their case managers and told me to reach out to have one assigned and that they’ll be better to assist me. So I wanted to ask, in your experience 1) Did you need preauthorization just for HRT and 2) Should I reach out to get a case manager, are they helpful for this sort of thing!

Sorry for the half rant, but I’d appreciate any insight you all have!
