My 3AM thoughts on "Passing."
Post Body

I just wanted to offer my 2ยข on passing. I believe those that put in the effort to appear or align with one's gender identity is not only best for them but best for me and those like me. I do not believe that the goal should be to 'pass' because it's subjective and not a concrete standard that any multiple of individuals can routinely achieve. It's not lost on anyone who is trans that a lot of the conflict is other people. There's an aspect of transitioning that does affect the people around us but more so their response to us and the validity of our safety and freedom of gender expression. When other trans look good in the sense that they go under the radar and go unnoticed that's supposedly a good thing. I know that as an egg I looked at various different types of trans figures to best gauge the limitations and possibilities of what was available to myself. There's a conflict of interest, I don't want to buy into the idea that I have to meet a standard of what others say it means to be me; but I am ultimately putting trust in others to look at me and register that I am trying to be the best version of myself and that it's something that doesn't quite meet the various standards of what any individual believes I am trying to portray. It can be frustrating but there are always more ways to improve depending on who you ask. sometimes the worst people to ask would be other trans people, as much as I've seen pockets of the community build one another up I've seen them just as eger to identify flaws in one's presentation of their identity. Its hard to say there shouldn't be a standard because without this pressure to pass then their validity given to those who make those dumb arguments "Anyone can claim to be trans as a means to act on bad intentions" because there isn't a bog standard for identifying someone who is Trans. We're all unique and our journeys are all personal and our gender identity/Expression reflects that. I believe its up to the questioning individual to not only research but explore as long as their in an environment to do so where they feel comfortable. I believe the goal shouldn't be to pass but to come into one's best self and to be comfortable both inside and out.
