is my doctor right?
Post Body

i have 0 doubts that im a girl, despite not caring much for dresses and such, im being told i should 'present first' but to me its less about the clothes im wearing, and more about how they fit me, anyways i had a doctors appointment today, the doctor was saying how around 50% of trans people regret it. She was also talking about how if you start hrt before 25 if will permanently fuck up you're body, she kept bringing up the negatives of estrogen, she said if i take hrt i WILL get: osteoporosis, damaged heart and lungs, not fully developed brain, cancer and several extreme things. ive done my own research into hrt and i know about things like strokes, but its just increased risk. she never once brought up the positives. she talked about there being no next to no research on it, and the only research that had been done showed that most trans people regret transitioning. she said that most of her patients ended up being fine with 'just being gay'.

my dad has always been 'supportive' as in, 'you need to present first', comparing hrt to buying a Lamborghini, and i get it, but hes never been like 'im sorry youre suffering' its been more like 'heres a list of reasons why you shouldnt be suffering'.

He said he does love me and i do believe it, and i think he believes it. but when it comes to me, he has a weird linear view on being trans, he talks bout how hormone problems can fuck you up, but ive told him i already feel miserable, and id rather feel physically miserable than mentally. he told me that he didnt think itd make me happy, that it might help but isnt going to do much. he has refused to do research because he thinks that the only valid research is talking to people IRL, which doesnt help because im not a super sociable person. every time i talk about hrt with him he always talks about how he feels and what he thinks, and not how i feel or what i think.

this was kind of just a vent, but i wanted to know what i should do, ive been miserable and while i do have semi 'supportive' parents, they invalidate me a lot without realizing it, and when i tell them to do research to know how to act around me, it turns into an argument (theres no winning an argument with my parents), i dont hate them, and while they do 'support' trans people, its more of a political belief of theirs

Yeah. This doctor just sounds like some right-winger who doesn't know the first thing about HRT, or maybe a TERF. Doesn't matter. <3 I'd work on finding a new doctor. I'm unsure if they treat minors, but Planned Parenthood is a safe place to go and you can even do it all online (tis where I get my hormones).

Now lets address some more specific things. Out of the people who transition, less than 1% detransition. And, a part of those really just realize they're nonbinary or something, so it isn't a full swing back to the other side of the pendulum. They aren't detransitioning in droves.

"Permanently fuck up your body." Yes. By making your bone structure more feminine. <3 . By possibly giving you breasts. By letting you keep all your hair and not have to go through Male Pattern Baldness. By redistributing your bodyfat to more feminine areas. By slowing beard/body hair growth. The list goes on and on and on. "Fuck up your body," seems allot more like giving you the body of a woman/girl.

You do have increased risk of heart/liver failure, osteoporosis, and breast cancer, but if you remain healthy and active you should be just fine. <3 Just remember to check your new breasts for lumps every now and then. That's all. Normal woman shit.

There's plenty of positives. Your brain chemistry is altered to resemble a woman's. Your skin is softer. Your hair grows longer. Less dysphoria. Mental and physical. You wont visibly age as fast since your hormones are monitored and regulated at the same level. And there is plenty of research on it. In fact, MTF HRT has been use for quite a long time. Most elderly women have taken MTF HRT. It's menopause medication. It's designed to keep their levels at the same level as a woman without menopause.

I hope your parents change their mind. <3 And your doctor. If not, I would start preparing to pay for it yourself when you're 18. Save up what you can.
