How long can I go not using it before I lose it?

I have a sudden and I evasive surgery to be done on my pelvis/femur area in a couple weeks. I will have a quoted 6-8 week bred ridden recovery time. I don't know how soon I'll be able to use my penis in the recovery. I don't want to lose it because I really like having it and that it works.
How long can I really go before it begins to atrophy?
