I got hired at a new job and was supposed to start on the 8th. Applied with my chosen name, went to the interview dressed nice but professional, interview went well, they told me I was hired and gave me a start date. Come the day of the on-boarding call my phone rings, I pick it up, they open the conversation by addressing me by my dead name and tell me they "decided to go with another applicant instead."
They used my chosen name throughout the interview. It's not like they didn't have my legal name from the beginning, I included it in the "previous names worked under" section. Why the fuck they chose to tell me I was hired only to reneg on that the day of the on-boarding process is beyond me but fuck them and fuck "right to work" states.
