Positing this question because I'm genuinely conflicted and my brain hurts, and I want to ask all of you what you think.
I was just scrolling tiktok and saw a trans person talking about a website that supposedly connects trans people in dangerous areas to people in safer areas, and allows a way to move safely. I've also seen people on this sub and other places online spreading info about where to get the raw ingredients to homebrew HRT.
I guess the conflict is this: these are invaluable resources for trans people, and the internet is a great way to spread info to a lot of people over a large area. However, if these are such valuable resources, shouldn't we be keeping them a little more on the down low? I think of how devastating it would be if the wrong people caught wind of these websites especially. I also think of how devastating it would be if these resources were gatekept, because lets be real, the people who need them most probably would never hear about them.
I just truly don't know how to simultaneously make these resources readily available for closeted and out trans people alike, while keeping it guarded from those who may seek harm towards our community.
My best idea is some sort of mediator between the people actually providing the resources and the people seeking them. Like, person A needs raw HRT ingredients, so they contact person B who is from a group of people that know a person C who can provide those ingredients. Person B facilitates the distribution of that resource to person A. Person A and C never know or come into contact with eachother. Person A isn't aware of the specific resource providers, but by proxy through person B has them made available. Person B's group would need to be extremely trustworthy and committed, but I don't think that would be a hard person to find. I also think this would be helpful because it could gather a lot of resources into one place, making it so you would just need to know about this one thing, rather than a bunch of different individual mutual aid programs running parallel to eachother.
Just a thought, and I am itching to hear what other people are thinking about this.
