On Civility...
Post Body

Heyo everyone, it's your friendly neighborhood diplomat.

So I love debating. I've participated in debating groups all my life. I've pretended to be a delegate from Qatar in the IAEA, a prosecutor investigating a murdering studio executive, and many others. Debating and arguing are in my blood. But one thing I hate is uncivil and rude debating.

When you're attempting to debate and bring someone to your way of thinking, name calling and insults do nothing to help you, and may even hurt your cause.

For those of you, LSIF, ancap, and all other political affiliations, who are used to living in a place where everyone shares your views: Augusta is not that kind of place. We are the most politically diverse city on the server, and I'm very proud of that fact. I don't associate with any single political party: I work for Augusta. I've served as a diplomat under an ancap, a socialist, a communist, and a member of the LSIF.

Calling people "shady", saying, even in jest, that a political ideology is "bullshit" and "insane" does absolutely nothing but divide the city and make it less accessible for newer people. Feel free to debate, disagree, and hold your own views. Just please, please, please, do it in a civil manner. I know you can, we've done it for months now, and it's been great. I'm so happy all of you live here, whether "here" is downtown, the Fistwood Commune, Ataraxia, Government Center, Northtown, Southtown, CIT, the Eastern Expansion, the Portal Shopping Zone, or elsewhere.

To me, you are all Augustans, and you should all be proud of being Augustans, over all else. Shop owners, government officials, builders, farmers, Ataraxians: they all provide and care about this city.

Yes our citizenship rules are loose: why do we WANT them to be tight? If people want to join our wonderful city, let them join. The dereliction practices have been going well, and people are happy to live here. I find myself giving tours every day to wide eyed citizens, many of whom decide to stay.

When it comes down to it, let's all just try to be a little more civil. Stop belittling others political beliefs in chat, stop accusing people of city takeovers, stop being so angry.

And get back to loving Augusta as much as I do.
