Recently my building was broken into in MTA and multiple chests were popped, both in public and private areas of the structure. The assailants were targeting the HJI shop, a long-time tenant on my ground floor. In addition to the HJI shop, they gained access to Nocifier's apartment on the first floor, my penthouse on the top two floors, and some storage space under the roof. Some minor loss of personal property occurred as well as some moderate building damage.

As I understand it, this incident is a part of the Hjaltland - Mir conflict, or whatever groups are currently fighting in this perpetual war we call Civ. Following the aforementioned incident I received PMs from multiple people on each side of the conflict urging me to handle it a certain way. As someone who believes in a small or non-existant state and doesn't wish to be involved in any way in people's international conflicts this is fruestrating to me. I have been incredibly busy IRL and really only have time to play on the weekends. As a result thereof, I have relatively little knowledge of the conflict I am being unwillingly dragged into.

Was it a violation of Mount Augustan law to wreck the HJI shop and the apartments above it? Almost certainly. Despite this, the individuals who rasacked my building reached out of their own accord to rectify the situation. In any other situation, with no tie-ins to other conflicts, I would forgive them provided they covered the cost of repairs and any lost items. Having said that, I also have a desire to ensure justice for the tenants of my building who, to the best of my knowledge, operated a shop in this space, a shop that was exceptionally well stocked and turned a disused space into a bustling marketplace. Even the paper distributes in front of the building!

If these attackers were wrecking anything outside of my property, there should be more than enough evidence to file a court case without my involvement. I also encourage the shopkeepers in this space to take their own legal action if they elect to do so. As legitimate renters of the space, their chests and the blocks they placed in the bottom floor are their own property present on my property with my permission. As such, I believe they have legitimate redress if they choose to pursue it.

The rule of law applies to all parties. If my tenants were engaging in illegal actions occurring in this building, I, as the property owner, would have liked to have been informed prior to escalation so that I could begin the process of terminating our agreement regarding the ground floor. Having said that, I never caught wind of anything illegal happening down there.

I'm sure I will be demonized for my inaction; I'm sure I would have been demonized for my action. At the end of the day I don't have the understanding or willingness to involve myself in any kind of conflict at this time.
