We all know that Mount Augusta is a tangled mess, and many of us like it that way. Very few of us want to be Orion (no offense to Orion, it's a wonderful place). I would like to propose that we draw the new MTA with a superblock structure.
For those of you who are not transportation engineers, a superblock is like a city block but bigger. Local roads can run random as ever, but every 0.5km or so there is always a main road that runs on a block system. This helps funnel through traffic onto these main roads while calming traffic and allowing more interesting configurations in neighbourhoods. My proposal is that, as soon as we make a 3.0 claim, we platt our main roads, like the 1980 highway and HPOOM and set aside that land. This will save us headaches down the road.
For an example of superblocks check out Denver, CO on google maps. Denver has main roads through town, but the neighbourhoods can be as screwy as MTA.
