Since I started playing in 1.0, I've always had an admiration for Mount Augusta. That admiration has extended into 2.0, and your dedication to justice and civility is something I wished I could see within all true nations. A few months ago, when I held the responsibility of reforming Roma's government and building them a new constitution, I used Mt Augusta as a point of reference, in the hopes that Roma's system of government might one day even equal yours.
Ask any of the veteran Civcraft players, and there seems to be a recurring theme among them. "Civcraft is just a PVP server now". While that may be true for a fair portion of Civcraft, the statement has never quite applied to Mt Augusta. Even when the "coolpvp" was looming at your doorstep, the citizens of Mt Augusta would persevere. When some individuals from EDEN attempted to kill Papapound within Mt Augusta, your government and system of justice kept true to their ideals, and no one lost their heads. Looking through /r/MtAugustaJustice, you will see the work and dedication the judges go through in order to ensure that fairness is achieved for every single player - citizen and noncitizen.
And yet, no government is perfect. I know from experience that a government can be ideal, but at the end of the day it will always be the responsibility of those operating within that system of government to ensure stability is maintained, and the ideals - which that government was founded on - are upheld. When an individual within the government decides that they can bypass the rules, or sever someone of their rights - for any reason - it poisons those ideals, and undermines the efforts and hardwork of everone else trying to ensure that there is fair justice for all.
As I understand it, the ideals and goals of Mt Augusta are stated promptly within the constitution, the very first paragraph:
Since its founding, the city of Mount Augusta has striven to be a guardian of fairness, justice, and democracy. It is to this end that we, the people of Mount Augusta establish, reaffirm, and solidify the rights of all persons who live and travel within our beloved city.
On the account of Tiberius_Prime, I was pearled within Mount Augusta. According to the constitution, I am allowed a trial, and I may be extradited upon the completition of a successful extradition vote. An extradition vote was attempted by Mir, but it failed to achieve a 3/4ths majority. Despite this, the Mayor of Mt Augusta, Prof_TANSTAAFL issued an executive order and had my pearl extradited - without a trial, without my consent, and not even a notification to alert me to a change of status. This is a direct violation of the constitution, Article V, Part A. It states:
i. All government offices shall be created and filled by popular vote. No office may have the power to contradict or override a popular vote for any reason.
Yet, Prof has done just that. He disregarded the results of the failed extradition vote and, by executive order, had my pearl extradited to Mir's vault. I was told I shouldn't take a trial, because it would only get my pearl extradited. I was told that I would see fairness within Mt Augusta, the pinnacle of successful and effective court justice within Civcraft since 1.0. I believed them, because I knew Mt Augusta's reputation. Yet now I rest in the Mir vault, thanks to Mt Augusta's mayor, without any respect to due process, without a fair trial, and without any respect for the rights that the Mount Augusta constitution states that I have.
I have done some truly terrible things to many Civcrafters who have done nothing to deserve it, and I accept that I'm deserving of appropriate punishment. I expect to be pearled for many, many months, if not years. I expect to pay many reparations in an attempt to right some of my wrongs. I expect to have one of my accounts pearled indefinitely. I expect that many Civcrafters will never trust me again. That being said, I also expect the officials of Mt Augusta to respect due process. I expect the officials of Mt Augusta to respect the ideals that the city was founded on, and I expect them to follow and abide by the constitution of Mount Augusta.
I have been warned that a trial would only result in my remaining pearl being permapearled, but I've lost all expectation of justice from a mayor who does not respect and abide by his city's constitution. It is for this reason, for better or worse, I am pursuing a trial in /r/MtAugustaJustice, in the hopes that the legendary justice system of Mount Augusta will provide due process where others can not.
