So, you want to be mayor? Think you've got what it takes?
This is the official nominations thread for Mount Augusta Mayor. I'm making this thread at 11:00pm Central European Time, and the voting thread will be posted Friday at 11:00pm CET, 48 hours from now.
We have a lot of new citizens and some old ones, so I'll do a quick rundown on what running for mayor means.
Here's how the constitution defines the position:
The Mayor's powers
i. The Mayor will receive the tie breaking vote on all bills, in addition to their one vote as a resident.
ii. The Mayor will function as the highest ranking arbiter; though any parties in conflict can name any third party as their arbiter, any and all appeals go to the Mayor. If a plaintiff or defendant in a case in the Augustan court feels the law has been misinterpreted by their judge, they may appeal the case to the Mayor, who will issue a final and binding decision.
iii. The Mayor will be in charge of international communications, though they also have the ability to appoint a diplomat, if they so chose. If a diplomat is elected by the people, this supersedes the Mayor's decision.
iv. The Mayor's term of office is indefinite, and can be terminated by either the Mayor's resignation, or by election of a new Mayor.
Though that is what the mayor does in theory, I believe someone who is a good mayor embodies a few other principles, and that there is more to the job than just the bureaucratic side.
Being mayor grants you very few privileges you didn't already have as a citizen, but it should instill a sense of city pride in you. You need to serve as the symbol of Mount Augusta. This means taking your tenure and making it a time where you go out of your way to help your fellow citizen, where you work to spread word of Augusta across Civcraft and improve our image abroad. It's a time to spend extra work on bills you may have thought of proposing but never got around to.
I hope that when running for mayor, you take these thoughts into consideration.
For this thread, you can nominate someone else or yourself. It is not uncommon or improper to nominate yourself. A special note: I will not be accepting any nominations for any positions.
Good luck, and post your nominations below!
