There are a lot of [BILL] posts on the Subreddit, but the way they should actually take effect is not really written up in the constitution. So here's my stab at it. (What can I say, constitutional law is my hobby.)
This bill makes the following amendments to the Mt. Augusta Constitution:
Article I, section B: insert the following after the first paragraph:
No longer than 24 hours after the end of the 48-hour voting period for a bill, a post must be made to the subreddit with "[Bill Result]" in its title. The post must contain an official tally of the votes for and against the bill, and an official status of "passed" or "not passed". The post must also contain the full text of the bill; if the bill was passed, it is this text that becomes law.
If a constitutional amendment is passed, the changes to the constitution which it specifies go into effect immediately upon the posting of the official election results. The Google document containing the constitution, located at https://docs.google.com/document/d/1zcxB5cDPPXhHswat7PZ-9Pc64-J1KbONx4B_4AmnwpE/edit (a link to which is to be maintained in the subreddit), must be updated to reflect these changes no more than 24 hours after the posting of the official election results.
If a change to the Mt. Augusta criminal code is passed, the changes to the criminal code which it specifies do not go into effect until the official published copy of the criminal code is updated. The Google document containing the criminal code, located at https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Hs-ppkWolsmVmF4wdyIH67uMjKoh5wetBgIZGyRrMlI/edit (a link to which is to be maintained in the subreddit), must be updated to reflect these changes no more than 24 hours after the posting of the official election results.
If another type of bill or generic referendum is passed (collectively, a "Resolution"), its text shall be prepended to a Google document entitled "Resolutions of the People of Mt. Augusta" (a link to which is to be maintained in the subreddit) no later than 24 hours after the posting of the official election result. Alternately, instead of or in addition to adding a new Resolution, a bill can amend one or more existing Resolutions, in which case the old versions of those resolutions are removed from the document and the updated versions are added at the top. The bill will go into effect when the changes it specifies have been made to the Google document.
Article II: Add section C: Law Conflicts, with the following content:
In the case of a conflict between two or more laws, elements of the constitution take precedence over elements of the criminal code, which in turn take precedence over resolutions. In the event of conflicts between two laws of the same precedence level, the later law wins. In the event of conflict between two laws of the same precedence level passed at the same time (i.e. as part of the same bill), the textually later clause takes precedence. If a clause of a law is self-contradictory, that clause is null and void.
One thing I haven't added, and which the constitution currently doesn't specify (but really should) is who is responsible for official election postings to the subreddit, or for keeping the constitution and criminal code up to date. Who is doing those jobs right now? Who has edit access to the Google documents?
