This is going to sound stupid, but does anyone remember a time where some character actually referenced Shayla's death? It's been a while since I've watched the show, but I remember Angela saying something like "this was before Shayla" and Gideon also talking to him about "I'm sorry" or something. But I don't think any of them actually said anything about her death?
This is a long shot, but because we saw Shayla in an instagram picture with Rami, could it be possible that Shayla didn't die/Elliot imagined it differently ( they'll play it back differently in flashbacks)? I know this is unlikely, but still...
I wish man, I wish... But it would be uncharacteristic of Vera to leave her alive. He even has his brother blasted shortly after.
My guess is that Shayla's death was probably reported as some kind of drug deal gone wrong which led to multiple deaths.
