Both brilliant films. They have their likeness to the classic martial arts films, with the style of fighting and fight scenes themselves. While it can be quite on the nose and some would say “cheesy”, it adds to the playfulness of the films in totality. The classic close up shot of the squinting eyes signalling the beginning of a fight for example, is one seen as “cheesy”. An interesting plot and storyline, with a decent amount of Tarantino’s violence which he has always nailed. Somewhat slow in parts, but very few scenes which I would rule as useless to the plot and storyline. I would rate Vol.1 above 2 after recently re-watching both attentively, but you will be left wanting to watch the second as soon as the first closes.
