Early in Jaws (1975) Quint sings "Farewell & adieu to you fair Spanish ladies" at Hooper, implying he's doomed if he trusts his shark cage. Later, as Quint grimly assesses the severe damage to the boat, the song is heard again

I think it was more than that. Catching the shark became personal to him... in a Captain Ahab manner. It was him vs. Shark, and he wasn't going to be denied his ultimate victory.
