Hi all, I am looking for resources, websites, videos, books, stories anything for someone who knows absolutely nothing about mountaineering but desperately wants to learn.
Background: I'm a fresh 28 year old male who is really getting into extreme/endurance activities and have spent many years backpacking and doing other common outdoor activities, fishing, hunting, some rock climbing, white water rafting etc. I really want to take it to the next level and mountaineering is something that really peaks my interest.
Priorities are doing it safely, correctly and respectfully of the community at large.
What are the basic fundamentals needed?
How do I select a first mountain as a goal for my first mountaineering trip?(I live in the lower 48 of the USA)
I don't have any gear currently, what's the smart way to go about collecting gear the first time around?
What would you have done differently when you first got into mountaineering?
What are some performance metrics I need to hit fitness wise before I attempt an actual mountaineering attempt?
What are some mistakes to absolutely avoid as a beginner and even later as a veteran?
Thank you in advance for all the help and advice.
