Did some work over the weekend to remove the VHF mounting brackets and wiring from my 2012 R1200RT-P. When I was clearing wiring out of the radio box, I noticed the main radio harness ran to one of these, and it wasnāt connected to anything else so I removed it. I noticed itās advertised as a plug and play item, and it did leave behind the bike side plug where the blue connector plugged in. Do I need a dummy plug or ballast there, or can I just ignore it from now on? Everything seems to work fine with it unplugged.
Also, I plan on keeping the Code 3 control brain in place, as I like the extra turn signals/brake lights/etc. and the lights are fun to play with in the garage. I almost got carried away cleaning out old electronics, and was about to remove a black object located above the rear wheel labeled āPVP Communicationsā, but after Iād traced all the other wires as unconnected, I noticed it was hardwired into the Code 3 box and decided I should leave it alone.
There was also a part of the disconnected radio harness which I traced, thatās two wires which ran up to somewhere between the front forks and the fairing. I know it wasnāt connected to anything, but I couldnāt really see where it went (appeared to possibly be butt spliced in) and I didnāt want to take even more body off, so I just coiled and stowed it out of the way. Any idea what that is? Iām guessing it related to the radio somehow, couldāve possibly been the black and red auxiliary buttons on the left controls?
I know not many others have knowledge on these cop bikes and theyāre often department-specific, and Iām also wary of getting carried away removing things and inadvertently killing the bike - just curious if anyone knows what Iām talking about.
