Passed CBT but don't feel ready.
Post Body

I passed my CBT at the start of November and will be getting a bike in April. At the start my instructor was very impressed with how I handled the bike as I never even sat on a 125 before. When we went out on the road it was hammering down and it was even amber warning weather and it was getting dark.

All I know is that we drive on the left, stop at red and go on green. I did learn the basics like emergency stop and slow speed maneuvering but I feel like the training isn't enough to equip new riders for real life riding.

I'm glad I don't have to spend another £120 to go over it again. I just felt at the end of the day I didn't deserve to have passed because of my lack of knowledge and confidence on the road.

Comments

You're not alone in this, but that's because this is how it's supposed to be.

I passed my test waaaaay back in the 90s, before the multi-level licencing became a thing. One day, I wasn't qualified to drive anything (I didn't get a car licence until years later), the next day I could ride whatever insane beast I wanted.

CBT doesn't really qualify you. Nor will having a full Cat A licence. It's the hours, miles and experience that you gather over time that qualifies you as a rider. CBT states you have a rudimentary understanding of the controls, and aren't likely to end up under someone's bumper or in a ditch within a day or two. It says "You're now ready to BEGIN learning."

This will be a long road (pardon the pun), but it really is worth it. Start in quiet local streets, practice the basic skills that were introduced during CBT. Make them second nature, and your confidence will grow with your experience.

I wish you a very sincere "good luck"!
