Tyre tread depth law in Europe
Post Body

Hi guys, looking for a bit of help. I'm trying to find the minimum legal tread depth throughout Europe, anyone have an idea where I can find out? Thanks!

You're correct, but I don't classify a moped as a motorcycle. Damned if I'd want to travel across a country on one either.

I don't think so either.

Everything I've looked up shows 1.6mm for cars and 1mm for motorcycles. There's a 4mm minimum for snow tyres for cars, but I doubt this applies to motorcycles.

I know that the minimum tread depth for motorcycles in the UK is 1mm across 75% of the tyre, but you'll want to replace them long before that. A bald tyre is not the same as a slick unless you're comparing performance on a wet track).

I believe that this extends to the rest of the EU... at least until March.
