Obtaining A Racing License
Post Body

So during a conversation on the discord one of the moderators; Namtabmai, suggested I make a post on the topic of obtaining a racing license, so here I am. I'll try to make it relatively short.

Please note, all information is relative to the passage I took to get mine, which was done via the British Motorcycle Racing Club (https://www.bemsee.net/)

You will need to reserve a slot on a Course. First of all in the process was a class session, a CTC, in which you learn about many aspects; safety, etc. which you will complete with a question paper, which is suprisingly easy to pass, in my opinion at least. Most places also require an on-track assessment course completion, called the BRA (Basic Roder Assessment) which covers many very helpful techniques for better riding and your technical skill is measured and assessed.

Next, you will need to complete an ACU Licence Application for the relative kind of Licence that you wish to apply for. (https://www.acu.org.uk/ridersmembers/license-forms.aspx)

Once You complete your ACU Application, you'll be rewarded with a NOVICE licence. With this you'll be limited to 650cc bikes, and mus wear a rather embarrasing orange bib. When you have a Novice licence you'll likely want to upgrade, and you can, but first: You must complete at least one race, 10 difference meetings at 3 or more circuits.

After your novice licence, you upgrade to an INTERMEDIATE NOVICE licence. For this you do need a full motorcycle licence and can ride any motorcycle capacity. You still need to wear an orange bib and again the qualifying period to complete before moving on is the same as for the Novice licence.

Next is the CLUBMAN licence. To get this licence you will need to compete in 10 races at 3 or more circuits. On completion of each of the 10 races you must obtain a signature to say you have completed the race. You also get to ditch the stupid bib.

Finally, NATIONAL licences. It's a remarkable amount harder to gain national status as it measures performanance, not just participation. You need to finish within 110% of the time of the race winner in 10 races. You also need to race at four circuits instead of just 10. There are also age restrictions in place, that go up from 11 years old.

From here you pick a class and get racing.

Good luck, hope this helped.
