XXL pads in an XL lid

Hi all,
I recently swapped out my XL pads in my AGV Pista-GP RR helmet from the XL ones to the XXL pads.
I then took it to my riding school (who I did my training with many years ago) and had them take a look whilst it was on my head, did the look left, look right, up/down to check fitting and they said it fitted fine.
My question is: Is there a problem with doing this? In terms of safety or is it perfectly ok?
