Does it make sense to master graphic design before motion design?
Post Body

I'm a marketing major, but I've been learning a lot of graphic design. Been going to a vocational school for it. Motion graphics is the end game, but I would like to be in the end able to produce anything, still or animated. I felt like getting into graphic design first made the most sense, then I can build from there.

If it helps. I also took a 12-hour class for After Effects and another for Premiere Pro. I have a friend who's trying to start a music marketing company which is really cool and he's having me practice with motion graphics effects.

Am I taking the wrong path? What should I be doing in order to become a motion graphics artist? Will graphic design benefit me or do they not go hand and hand? I felt like learning a lot of design principles and theory also applied to moving imagery.
