Post Body

It seems I explain this a lot so I decided to make a post. It's important understand how moss you see in decor or craft is obtained. It important for every one to go deeper on this topic and be informed.

There is very little regulation if any when it comes to selling of illegally harvested and poached moss. You can only take the word of the seller but the seller most likely doesn't know. Since it is very hard and difficult to make profit off of the cultivation of moss. Most moss meant to be sold is harvested from the environment. Moss poaching is very real, and very damaging to the ecosystem. Most areas with an abundance of moss do have daily moss yields that allow people to gather. However, the moss industry is surprising lucrative attracts poachers to collect moss that took decades to grow in mere minutes, taking well over there legal amounts to collect. These areas are forever harmed and unlikely to begin growing moss for many years.

Moss takes to long to grow for the amount of moss taken and areas stripped of moss are scard. It isn't sustainable. Moss is the building block of the natural order of the forest. Without moss forests will die.

Most moss you see in stores are poached, killed with bleach and other chemicals and dyed green for consumers.

If you want moss for personal use take a small amount form out side be careful of not taking to much, and let it grow and propagate from that's small patch. It will take a while depending of the species.

I prefer people to just admire the moss outside. Give it a little greeting and a pat and move along.

Be nice and save the moss.
