Remove PMI from conventional mortgage at 20%?

I’m preparing to purchase a house in the next few months. If I ended up going with a more expensive house and have 18% down instead of 20% down I’ll end up paying for PMI. How soon can I get that removed? If 3-4mo later I have an extra $20,000 can I get the PMI removed?
For this example let’s assume $650k house. Thanks!
