Question about guest characters and why people seem to want them.

I am not and have never been a fan of guest characters in recent Mortal Kombat games. There are SO many fan favorite characters from the lore that could be included in their place(I'm looking at you, Smoke). Yet every year, people clamor for guest characters instead of these omitted characters. Why? Personally, I'd rather have any of these omitted MK characters over guest characters.

Edit: I also want to point out that I don't DISLIKE the guest characters, as Joker, Spawn and Rambo were characters I enjoyed playing from time to time in MK11. I just would prefer to have more MK characters as opposed to the guests.
