why do moroccans do these three things?
Post Body

Hello people of r/Morocco

Now, I know the title might seem accusatory, but I hope you know I'm just curious as to why these three behaviors are so widespread. Moroccans IRL haven't really given me a solid explanation, so I'm hoping you guys can enlighten me.

1. "Washing" here means "rinsing"

So I've noticed that when Moroccans say "Oh yeah let me wash this used cup/spoon/fork/whatever", they actually just pass it under the tap water a bit, flick the water around, and then put it back in the cupboard. There's been plenty of times when I've been rummaging around trying to find a clean fork, only to find one that's coated with used grease and bits of meat. I even bought a huge bottle of washing fluid and a new sponge and put them right above the sink. In fact, it takes less than a second to wipe a knife with a soapy sponge, but that doesn't seem to be common here.

2. Clogged drains

Another one pertaining to cuisine, is that in almost every household I go to, stay in, or have lived in, the kitchen drain almost always eventually gets clogged within a day or two, usually with a fetid mixture of food bits, mint leaves and coffee grains. Is it just really common to not throw away food before putting the plate into the sink? Is a sink seen as a trash can? Perhaps people here prefer cleaning out the pipes every other day? Hmmmm

3. Toilet paper

It seems that only a minority of Moroccans that I live with or work with actually use toilet paper. Too often has someone invited me over to their house, and I go to use their bathroom only to find no toilet paper. Then, when I ask them about it, they give me a confused look, like "why would anyone need that?!" This got me thinking about the technicalities of shitting for Moroccans, and I don't quite understand how people can clean themselves after taking a dump with no toilet paper, unless.... they use their hands? (I thought that was only in the past), or they take a shower right afterwards (even then, how will you reach in the crevasse)... Is there something I'm missing? Do people here just walk around with swamp ass a lot? I'm sure there's some traditional, tried-and-tested method in Morocco that I'm just not clued in on.

Anyways, I know these questions may seem accusatory, but don't let my disbelief fool you: I'm only trying to understand why these things are done here, and for what reason.
