Thoughts on figuring out my doubled winter Pepco bill? (gas heat)
Post Body

Appreciate your help in figuring out my doubled Pepco bill

I live in an old (1920s) stand alone cottage, it's leaky, poor energy efficiency - I have made peace with that! In past years, my pepco bill was 80-110/month during the winter. I just got two for over $200. (Summer is also almost doubled this past year, but I assumed that was the crazy temps last year tiered/prime pricing for summer AC price increases)

I'm hoping for some help figuring out why - with the goal of is there something else I can do to keep my bills down?

  • I have a gas heater, so my gas bill goes up in winter - I'm wondering what is the deal with the doubled electric bill - I didn't think prices went up that much
  • I don't think I have more electronics/lights plugged in or turned on, there haven't been major changes in appliances that I can think of
  • I did the free home energy check via Pepco last spring, they didn't find anything else I could do without a major overhaul of the house
  • My home energy report says 'good' and I'm slightly under kWh for 'similar homes'
  • I bought a kw usage meter for sockets that I'm planning to use - just haven't started testing yet

Thanks for any help!
