I’m coming from owning sports cars and just picked up my first fun off-road car. I bought a clean 1995 Montero SR with 130k miles. Doing the basic maintenance like timing, belt, and fluids to begin with. I have what I think are stupid questions that I can’t find the answer to elsewhere. I know I have the locking rear diff, but when it is unlocked does it function like a open diff or is it a LSD that than can be locked? Is the front a open diff?

The only issue with the car is that it doesn’t wanna lock the rear diff, I can hear the air pump running, and I have visually inspected it to have no leaks. Gonna replace all the rubber hoses tonight. If that doesn’t fix the leak is the next step taking the rear axle apart? Love this car so far.
