A few weeks ago the surf was very nice at Marina state beach, so I took my board out, but I was pretty freaked out by the depth and murkiness of the water. All the other surf spots I’ve hit around Monterey (Del Monte, Carmel, Asilomar) are super clear, so I feel like I could at least know if a shark was around and get out or try to push it away, but at Marina I wouldn’t even see a shark coming if I was looking straight at it. The water also gets deep pretty fast there. I naively feel like that makes it more friendly to sharks. Am I wrong? Is Marina state beach safe to swim/surf in? Does it depend on the season?
