The next MonsterVerse should be the perfect opportunity for them to FINALLY introduce Anguirus!! The spikey boii is long overdue for a MonsterVerse appearance. He’s the first kaiju that Godzilla ever fought and he’s one of his most loyal and trusting allies. Now he’s sort of been confirmed to “exist” in the MonsterVerse, as a skeleton of him can be seen outside of Godzilla’s underwater lair in King of the Monsters(although, legally, it’s not technically Anguirus). Maybe it was intentional to have his remains in the underwater city that worshipped Godzilla and maybe had them there as a memorial as a fallen ally of his. Hinting at an alliance that Godzilla and Anguirus famously had in the older films.
The question is how could Anguirus work in the MonsterVerse? Well if his skeletal remains are proof of his existence, it means that either he’s officially dead or that it was another member of his species, and that Anguirus himself is still alive somewhere in the MonsterVerse. Maybe he’s laying dormant somewhere in Hollow Earth and as more of the humans go deeper, he’s then discovered. Here’s what gets interesting. Maybe when they find him, they also find alongside him a Godzilla egg. Adam Wingard has teased that Godzilla could be getting a son similar to how Kong got a son in The New Empire with Suko. With Anguirus in the movie, it could further develop his relationship and alliance with Godzilla and his species overall by having him be the caregiver of the Godzilla egg. His role could be similar to that of Rodan’s role in Godzilla vs MechaGodzilla 2, where he’s a protector of Godzilla’s offspring. Regardless of how they handle him or where they take his character, Anguirus deserves to be the next Toho kaiju that appears in the next Monsterverse movie.
