Is this the right pot?

Newbie to the plant life here: I won a contest where I got shipped this beautiful monstera and I do not want to kill it. I bought this self-watering pot that collects water on the bottom. Three weeks later there has been some growth but also some death to the smaller leaves. I also am unsure if those grass/roots should be in soil. Do I need a much bigger pot?
