Dual blades skill question

MHW is my first monster hunter game. I picked out du blades. I've enjoyed most of the monster fights with little issue but it feels like my dodges dont actually dodge anything and I take a lot of damage (especially since hitting master rank).
Is evade window a skill that I should be trying to get while still trying to maximize my damage output?
