Recently got into Monster Hunter, best in series?

Hi all,
Previously I had tried Monster Hunter World and it was fun at launch but it got hard to keep friends into the game and by the second (?) world boss they were done - the gold dragon? Sorry, it's been forever.
Recently got Monster Hunter Stories 2 on a friends recommendation and been really enjoying it.
But now I'm curious where to go as I progress through Stories more. Should I go back to World or is there another game I should try?
